Do you guys know why complex numbers occur as points in the argand plane? it is cuz the real number line is complete, it has no space left, so mathematicians created a 2 copies of the real number line, both perpendicular to each other, forming a plane, one being the real axis and other being the imaginary one.

how about this? Is this within the standard mapping of numbers to nature? If so then if I keep throwing one rupee coins in my pond then I will not only lose all of them but also end up in debt. How does that work? Or is it that the modeling is different here?

Everything is imaginary. Zero is imaginary. Humans invent arbitrary numbers to model mathemetical reality.
All numbers are a type of complex number. On real numbers you can only perform 1D operations like stretching, flipping, etc. Complex numbers allow you to perform 2D operations like waves, rotations etc.
To describe a point in space using Cartesian system, you need two different points. Now imagine doing this with a complex number. You can rotate any real number by 90 degree to describe any point in space. This is much more efficient and consistent.
