I’ve been training in swimming and rowing very regularly and at points ive felt the need for a smartwatch (just to share stats honestly) but thinking about it I cant find a good reason anyone would need it.
Suppose even if we get a cheap one like Xiaomi or fitbit, the stats arent useful much.
>distance
You can pre-check a run and for me i already know my pools dimensions and can easily mentally note laps
>sleep
Idk this seems like a useful metric but sleep is sleep, sleep early and well and thats it
>heartrate
Useless, even if you wanna do zone 2 training you can quite literally just feel if ur over exerting or not
>calorie burn
Might be useful but its wonky across all watches and you cant really be sure
If i do get one im either getting an apple watch or a Garmin, or a fitbit (the screenless one)

If im going literally just as a nice to have product thats only for showing off my stats (I dont post on insta much anyway maybe my priv, or literally just posting workouts on inch) id get an apple watch because the UI is great and the fact that I already use much of apples ecosystem works out well. Even though they’re a pain in the ass and die out quick

Smartwatch is the biggest jew gimmick of all time. However theres 2 uses of it
1. Emergency signals like apple watch
2. Being able to control Playlist through wrist instead of going to the phone itself

Which is also what im thinking. The one good reason is that it looks cool and it feels cool (which will wear off) but its not that bad to have your stats
It is like a calculator, once you start depending on it, the brain will slowly forget (or become too lazy) to do mental calculations.
Now, you can calculate using analogue clock, at least roughly: the time, an estimation of speed, etc etc. Once you give in to the precision and pre calculated stuff by the smartwatch, you brain will become useless for this particular thing (which will also have effects elsewhere too)

It may look cool but be sure to check for sizes.
My wrist is just 4 cm. I once tried to wear a smartwatch and it went over and looked very bad. Also, there is a constant itchy feeling from the sensor pressure underneath it. I used it for more than an hour and removed it to see that that portion was not able to breathe and it was sticky and damp underneath. It was constantly itchy.

Yaar anon, dont be a contrarian fag. Dont argue for the sake of it. Its 100x more convenient to control playlist or music on hand instead of using the phone

Im genuinely not being a contrarian I never felt that my phone was a hindrance during a workout, on the row erg I literally just stick it on the machine and the magsafe sticks, or I put it on my bottle next to me. During lifts its in my pocket or near a window, change music during sets and its easy. I don’t think a smartwatch would really be that big of a difference

I think it can be useful if you have sleep apnea or something. Also some smartwatches have a feature to send alerts when you've been in an accident or suffered a fall.
