Tata Power will invest ₹6,600 crore to build a 10 GW solar wafer and ingot plant at Gopalpur in Odisha , with work beginning in October and the first 5 GW phase targeted for commissioning in January 2028. India has rapidly expanded its solar cell and module manufacturing capacity but remains import-dependent for upstream wafers and ingots. Odisha will now host a key piece of this missing upstream solar supply chain.
