>Be me>25 year old unmarried brahmin man>Frustrated from parental pressures in life.>We were at lunch
Had an absolute awakening at lunch today and I need to share it with someone before I laugh myself to death.
My dad was lecturing me for the hundredth time about "tradition," "purity," and how our family lineage makes us superior to half the people on the street. He reached out to check if I was wearing my sacred thread properly under my kurta.
Instead of letting him inspect it like a prize winning cow, I reached right into my collar, grabbed the Janeu, and snapped it clean in half right in front of both of them.
The absolute silence that followed was priceless. My mom dropped a whole stainless steel plate of dal on the floor, and my dad turned the exact shade of a ripe tomato before gasping like a fish out of water. He started hyperventilating about "losing our ancestral protection" and "brahminicide" (as if a piece of unwashed cotton kept him from being mediocre at his 9-to-5 desk job).
I just walked out of the house to meet with some friends.
Imagine living in the 21st century and measuring your entire self-worth by a piece of string gifted to you when you were 12 by some old guy chanting mantras you don't even understand.
