This is how it is This is not exactly true, from what I have heard from my parents about my grandparents who were/are casteist. The reality was a jati system, not a caste system, it’s more like taking pride in one’s identity and being endogamous. For example, my mom recounts an example where one of her (male) cousins married a Brahmin, and my grandmother expressed disapproval of him marrying outside of the caste.
