what do indians mean when they mention
>middle class
?
every indian i talk to says that they are middle class, even if they live in a slum and make like 500 usd a month, they own no means of production, have no investments etc, I've always thought that middle class is someone who lives partially of off his earnings and partially out of his capital, why do in india people consider for example programmers working 9-5 middle class?
>>74263
>what do indians mean when they mention>>middle class
Here you go
<Generally defined as households earning between ₹5 lakh and ₹30 lakh
This fails to account for how many people you have in the said family and how many are earning members but it is still a good demograph according to the government
>>74271
If you your family makes less than a total of 5 you are lower class, if you live by yourself and make less than 5 you are lower class, even collectively if your family cant make more than 30 you are not higher class, plain and simple
>>74275
>is that per month? How much is it in euro/usd?
Annum
>so you base it solely on income? net worth is not seen as important? strange
Networth is not, i am not saying it should not, but its not, this is what allows a lot of "lower classes" to leech of benefits as well unfortunately, and the upper classes are ridiculously higher than middle class, so they dont give s shit
>USD and Euro
You can just calculate it timmy anon, its not that tough, just ask how much 5 lakh INR is in USD and Euro
>>74307
There is, roughly upper middle and the upper class. Each of them are then further divided in Lower Lower, Middle Lower and Upper Lower, like such, it is pretty good metric based on the GDP per capita of nation, and how one is earning compared to it.
>>74316
>middle is those who can afford vehicles and a mid-size house/appartment(150-250 gajj/sqryard)
It could be life time savings too, the middle-middle can pull that off with it, making a house of your own is really expensive, so is purchasing one, if you are making 10 to 20 lakhs, it will not make much of a difference
>>74307
I don't know about the global metrics, but in general middle class are people who live off of partially work and their own capital, for example if you work and own a rental apartment or a substantial amount of stocks then you are middle class, or if you have a small business that brings you profit and is worth something
owning a house (actual house, not slum) would probably put you in top 5% of population in india, also you mention vehicles, you mean those cheap indian made cars for 10k usd for a new one? or a real car?
>>74316
When i think about it middle class is the populace that lives paycheck to paycheck which really does end up being one third of total population
>>74324
>owning a house (actual house, not slum) would probably put you in top 5% of population in india
Not really, owning a house is not a big deal, upper middle class can do it as well, the real top 3-2% have innsane, outright inhumane capital on them, though i dont hold it against them, it is their money
>>74327
Thats the common misconception, most lower class dont have a job and cant sustain themself paycheck to a paycheck in the first place, that is why they get benefits from government, and it enjoys it because it gets a very designated voter base from it
>>74324
>you mean those cheap indian made cars for 10k usd for a new one? or a real car?
what even is a real according to your standards? a car being manufactured in india will obviously be significantly cheaper than what is sold in europe.
>>74328
it's from bangladesh
>>74332
so in india it's different, you have your own class system, living paycheck to paycheck means that you have no savings and that definitely puts you in the lower class
in eu a lot of people get some form of gov benefits and they are often unrelated to how much someone owns/earns
>>74335
a car from a serious brand that passes safety regulations, I've looked it up and even if you somehow import an indian car into eu you won't be allowed to drive it on public roads
>>74339
>in eu a lot of people get some form of gov benefits and they are often unrelated to how much someone owns/earns
Its same here as well, i think both of it is stupid since the critieria is given on ethnic and religious identity to muslim and dalit and obc, and they are not even minority groups, its pretty silly design that is crumbling overall
>>74347
>is given on ethnic and religious identity to muslim and dalit and obc
ah yes, typical indian stupidity
in poland for examle a family with children gets about 200euro per month per child, it doesn't matter how much they earn
to be honest it baffles me that indians don't put emphasis on building their own capital especially since you don't have free education, no retirements, medical care is shit etc, only money can save you from dying on the street when you hit 80 and are incapable of working
>>74356
>to be honest it baffles me that indians don't put emphasis on building their own capital especially since you don't have free education, no retirements, medical care is shit etc, only money can save you from dying on the street when you hit 80 and are incapable of working
Well capital building is there though it is not as prominent. It basically boils down to rinse and repeat process in a way. You suffer and collective what you can, fail to collect enough and your kids are stuck in same loop. This goes on untill someone gets a lucky break, etc etc.
The poland thing wont work here, the population is too big. If i had to make a choice, i would give it to those who are basically non existent in numbers, or seem to struggle financially despite being qualified. Everyone cant ever be helped at such numbers. Earlier we get rid of the delusion, the better.
>>74361
>population too big
not an excuse, big population means a lot of tax money
but in india literally nothing works and beaurocracy is stuck in 19th century and busy with documenting everyone's caste and religion, 25% of indians are illiterate, your education is shit, people work in unregulated jobs, every official is corrupt
those are the real problems
>>74356
this is all untrue, lower class is essentially those who work daily wage jobs and make measily 20k-40k/month and have almost little to no savings. As for gibs, these are generally schemes launched to attract voters which often last for a specific period of time, so yes, there is no such specific neetbux/leechbux for those who dont earn.
>education
government education is pretty much free but most of it is low quality except Kendriya Vidyalya
>it baffles me that indians don't put emphasis on building their own capital
now coming to building assets, i believe most who call themselves middle class has some form of asset apart from their house/apartment.
even for middle there are those who have just entered it through a stable whitecollar job or business or those who were born into it and have some sort of cushion incase of emergencies.
>>74371
>busy with documenting everyone's caste and religion
Thats actually a good thing because the last census took place in 19th cent and its natural for a subcon to address different ethnic groups into account, if benefits will be given on basis of it.
Its just the way benefits are provided makes no sense to me. I want the caste documentation to happen since i am tired of the "Minority needs help" narrative when they are bigger than half the nation in numbers at this point.
This will atleast allow us to count the "oh but let me give you lower class the freebies so you can vote us" bs for good. Shame how slow they all are with it.
>>74376
>As for gibs, these are generally schemes launched to attract voters which often last for a specific period of time
True, its an elusive carrot for the said donkey
>>74376
>even for middle there are those who have just entered it through a stable whitecollar job or business or those who were born into it and have some sort of cushion incase of emergencies
Upper middle atleast has that, there are fair share of peoole who managed to buy land or run their own shop or rent space over collective money of two generation or a white collar job, sadly its just emergency cushion in the end
>>74376
also basic medicare in India is just free, you visit government hospital and you get free consultation and free meds and schemes like AYUSH cover surgeries and other extensive treatments for poorfags. apart from ayush, states run their own schemes which is based on state's government wish
>>74383
i had a boil once and if i visited a clinic/private dermatologist for it, it would have costed me easily 500-1000 just for consultation but in govt hospital everything was free except a tropical cream that i had to buy based prescription.
There is a huge pool of sewage outside my house because rats have clogged the drainage that merges from 8 different houses and I am getting bitten by mosquitoes right now. I think I am lower middle class.
>>74393
I don't know anon, I know / used to know quite a lot of Indians and those from higher castes see themselves as better than the rest of indians even if they live in a slum, do areanged marriages, etc
>>74397
no, you are the lowest class
>>74356
>don't have free education
lolwut
most public schools are free
>only money can save you from dying on the street
if you're poor you get free monies from the govt
+ indian culture expects kids to live with their parents and pay for them when they hit retirement
>>74393
>yes religion is an issue as mudslimes are bad faith in general.
This, it stays true universally, people will put aside caste nignoggery for a moment if it means muslims get put down, take gujarat riots or babari demolition at hand
>>74399
your retardation is showing
>higher castes
do not live in slums. They are either the white-collar workforce who live in gated suburbs or high-rise apartments, or they are agricultural landowners in the villages who employ the lower castes to work their land in exchange for some of the food, housing, and a small salary during the season
>areanged marriages
Literally everyone does this besides the top 5% in the largest cities in India. Even if you're a richfag living abroad you eventually come back because your parents find a match (typically a girl from the same caste or region as you)
>>74408
if you are poor you pay 0. If you earn under 8 lakh rupees a year you get >60% off. You also pay less and even get stipends if you're from a lower caste
The only people who really pay are the people who can already afford it
>>74371
>big population means a lot of tax money
You do realize that the majority of Indians don't pay tax? If you make under 12 lakh INR a year you aren't taxed
>>74387
No one disagrees to this tbh, ethnic groups never asked goverment to ever interfere in which group choose to married which of the said group, this is somethings seen in entite asia, east and central asia alike.
No one chimps about it irl, we all just wanted to be left alone. However if they have to do it, we would prefer if they did it properly. Gave us a real and properly done census accounting for the numbers of ethnic groups right now than in last century.
Religion is not something we can not address though. Most of muslims are objectively bad faith actors. They dont really contribute to nation, frequently participate in terrorist activities, are knowl child rapist, commit zoophillia.
They tend to start riots, evade taxes, but they all grt so much external support, not just the national one, think of them as niggers of india basically, except twice as stupid, quarter as strong, thrice in nunbers. Its pretty annoying, its like having this annoying roach crawl near show that we sll want to crush but cant since the goverment said no.
>>74383
Yeah but thats not consistent and it is pretty limited for most part. It varies state by state, making it a poor cushion for many and severe medical cases as well.
>>74399
There are so such things in reality, a lot of castes share more or less the same financial circumstances among UC, since they tend to make majority of working class. OBC is where it gets complicated since some of them can technically be both upper class due to land owning history but also can be slum dweller. Class and Caste are two different things though, majority of the caste nignoggery depends on which caste has more asset and which is more in numbers in the region.
>>74400
>if you're poor you get free monies from the govt>+ indian culture expects kids to live with their parents and pay for them when they hit retiremen
True, its just like most asian nations, a lot of us will take care of our parents if they get old.
>>74415
This, UC saturated white collar jobs, it is why the entite problem came to be in first place since BR ambedkar used the claim that everyone should be a part of every work field. That is not wrong, problem was relaxing the mark for non Upper Caste which ended up compromising the quality of individual selected.
Then there is number of the attempt one take in goverment fields and soon private fields too. Kind of unfortunate how UC tend to leave the nation least when they tend to get the worst end of thr stick.
Also yeah every one does arranged marriages, ethnic continuity is a global thing, its not like all whites marry all whites or all blacks marry all blacks. Its just a bad faith argument. You could dissolve entirity africa (as it is group of said black "races") i to one black homogenous race and it will be arguably worse. Two entirely different things.
>>74415
>if you are poor you pay 0. If you earn under 8 lakh rupees a year you get >60% off. You also pay less and even get stipends if you're from a lower caste
Yeah one thing that blesses you if you are not middle - middle class, is us not having to pay income tax. (Untill we do get into that range and we end up paying it) Some day say GST feels unfair (pay tax on gas, pay tax on using the gas to drive, pay tax for the gas you used as you travelled on the high way, etc, why? i already paid my income tax) but that is extend of it, USA does this too
>>74415
I know a brahmin family (2+2) that earns about 500 USD per month and they live in a slum, it's a decent accomodation for indian conditions though
