Life could be common across space and other planets, but starting life from scratch is incredibly difficult. On Earth, it took nearly a billion years for the first simple life forms to appear in extreme conditions. It's like running countless simulations until one finally works. Some scientists think microscopic life may have arrived on Earth on an asteroid, but I don't personally believe that hypothesis.
