ITBP Director General Shatrujeet Kapur confirmed on October 22 what New Delhi has downplayed for months: Indian and Chinese troops are locked in ongoing face-offs at multiple points in Arunachal Pradesh. He said: “In the past few days, a situation arose where face-off happened at several locations in Arunachal and it still continues.” Kapur called China India’s “biggest adversary.” The friction began in late July near Maja in Upper Subansiri. Patrols briefly confronted each other and withdrew. Government sources say Chinese troops later returned in larger numbers and pitched tents roughly 6–7 km inside India’s perception of the Line of Actual Control. India reinforced the area. No violence or casualties reported. India’s Foreign Ministry responded the next day with a familiar line: the border gets “disturbed from time to time when Chinese forces deviate from established patrolling patterns.” Diplomatic and military channels continue. The face-offs persisted through August boundary talks in Beijing, a first-ever eastern sector Corps Commander meeting on September 6, and the BRICS summit Xi attended in New Delhi. Months of engagement, and troops remain face-to-face. Kapur used the moment to call for drones, anti-drone systems, underground shelters, and new training to avoid Galwan-style clashes. Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge called the confirmation “deeply alarming” and demanded the prime minister “come clean.” Talks and summits have not moved the troops. India’s own border force now says the confrontation continues.
