there's little money left in game development nowadays. after the advent of AI, slop factories have been running at full-steam, making people less interested in buying expensive games. plus, compute has become very expensive so, game devs can't really expect to capture mass-market economics any longer to sell their titles. every game has to be expensive af, and the people who're going to legitimately play your game are going to be fewer and fewer.

Baldur's Gate (OG games), Jade Empire, Mass Effect series, Dragon Age Origins, and most importantly Star Wars: KOTOR. They basically translated board games into digital worlds. Without them, RPG would be nothing like how it is now in some way.

the solution to the videogaming industry's problem is actually very straightforward and simply but they'd all have to pool-in to make it happen. they need to release a modular console that's easier for players to switch the hardware for.
think of it like an open-sourced hardware console with a base OS and options for players to freely swtich their CPUs, GPUs, RAM, etc. easily. this is the logical future which they haven't implemented 'cause of console industry overlords (mainly sexbox and gaystation).

this was until 2016 and the shitcoin revolution that drove-up hardware prices. the gay-AI revolution of 2022 was the final nail in the coffin. that's when the prices of hardware started to maxx-out.
so, console companies started to renege on their promises. they couldn't afford such steep losses at all, and higher console prices meant fewer players. fewer total audience means that it wasn't worth it for game studios to develop titles for these consoles at all.
it became a dysgenic, downwards spiral. fast-forward to today and hyper-casual games are exploding thanks to AI slop mills. and gay-station and sex-box literally can't afford to ship their consoles at the prices they once promised.
so, naturally, the entire industry fell into regression.

sony and sexbox had a tacit understanding with game devs. to ship their consoles at below costs so that the game devs could get better hardware to run their games on, and for a mass-market audience - no less. this model only works as long as the hardware prices stay low and sony is able to ship its machines at a marginal sliver of a loss.
this is why they've been jacking old console prices retardedly and incessantly. the next-gen consoles that you're going to see floating on the market aren't going to be too far up-a-notch from their predecessors.
