He was way ahead of his time
>The 12th-century Kashmiri scholar Kalhana is widely recognized as India’s first true historian. He was remarkably ahead of his time because he approached his monumental work, the Rajatarangini (“The River of Kings”), with a rigorous, scientific methodology that predated modern Western historiographical principles by several centuries.>Unlike contemporary writers who wrote to please royal patrons for rewards, Kalhana did not receive royal patronage for the Rajatarangini. In his introduction, he famously declared that a historian must be like a judge, completely free from love or hatred.>He actively reviewed and pointed out errors in 11 older, conflicting chronicles that preceded him. He examined physical evidence including royal charters, edicts, land grants, coins, and temple inscriptions to accurately date regnal spans and verify claims.
