At 1945, your scout platoon commander reports enemy infantry occupying your assembly area in strength. He estimates the size of the enemy force to be at least a company. Further, he reports he has just linked up with an allied reconnaissance team that was operating west of the river but has been forced east across the river under fire. The reconnaissance team leader reports there is no sign of friendly forces holding the river line or the bridge and that enemy forces have been moving across the bridge for at least 30 minutes, including tanks within the last 10-15 minutes. This is all the information your scout commander can tell you.
Just then, you hear the sound of machinegun fire coming from the direction of your scout platoon.
Within a five-minute time limit, give your solution in the form of the fragmentary order you will issue to your subordinates and any reports or requests you will make to higher headquarters. Then provide an explanation of your decision.

I will assume retreating isn't an option since the friendly elements across the river have been pushed east and something needs to be done.
First, order more artillery reinforcements if possible and ambush assembly area with one set of tanks and mechanized infantry. Order the eastwards heading units to move towards schaffer farm area.
Lead the remaining set of tanks and infantry to schafer farm to hold the line. Support the previous units in destroying the enemy line in assembly.
First thing is we inform higher ups for air support. Then, we send 2 companies up north, not the route that directly leads to the bridge, we send one to shafer hill, blocking the possibility of the black arrow up north and we send one just, south of hamlet ridge, in case they progress past the black arrow we can get the jump on them. We send 2 companies to directly support us in the fight north of wharton hill, incase the tanks are arriving directly, we need heavy support there. Btw I don't know much, so I don't know the difference between the types of companies.

Actually scratch that, I want to retreat the scout units to the point A is going to be at (black dot) and send 2 units) there to this black dot and 2 units to the other black dot, on shafer hill. So we'll have three units on black pint one and 2 units on black point 2 schafer hill, Imform highers ups for
a) air support
b) to move unites to where the road leads down from wharton farms to block this area.

rough frago i cant be bothered to type in format: company A moves to wharton to suppress the enemy company in the assembly area, the scout units retreat westwards towards the river, company b, c and d swing south of wharton through the farm and assault the bridge, the scouts will reach the river first so can report on the state of the bridge and the enemy force crossing so we can better decide how to take it back
the division commander's decisions were made for a different situation which doesn't exist anymore, we ought to act on our own to seize the initiative
we know theyve been crossing for half an hour, that is enough time to get a battalion or so across, since friendly units holding the bridge had no time to report i reckon they were overrun with a deliberate attack, there are probably more units crossing the bridge, the focal point hence now is not the assembly area south of hamlet(or as u called north of wharton) but the bridge itself, our vanguard has reported an enemy infantry company occupying our assembly area, since it lies right on the way to wharton hill which gives a great and open view of the terrain ahead i believe they were heading towards that, as it is an enemy breakthrough they will try to consolidate it and exploit, in this case the enemy infantry company is caught out in the open and we can destroy them if we act quickly, considering time and space constraints they are also likely moving to the ridge if not already there, company a races to the wharton hill to fix and destroy the enemy company south of hamlet in its place and also suppress the enemy on the ridge or moving towards it, company b, d and c have the most important task, we need to cut the flow of enemy forces off, this is the most important task here, the enemy in the assembly area is merely a distraction, maximum force must be concentrated to retake the bridge, if we cut off their logistics any units that have crossed will become useless either way
i will only ask the superiors for better intel of the overall situation at hand, ask for indirect fires to smoke the crossing area between wharton hill and farm to conceal our movement, calling for heavy artillery or air support will take too long and help the enemy get more units across, besides we don't know the state of the overall front since the enemy has managed to surprise us, those assets will likely already be busy

theres a scale yaar, that route would be too long, wharton hill alone gives a good enough los on the area that matters, if the enemy gets a unit through the north it would be useless when we take the bridge, besides they won't utilizing units in piecemeal like that, would be incredibly stupid, they are not coloring the terrain, the focal point from the enemy's perspective is seizing the hamlet ridge and the wharton hill that is why we found one company moving south to it

with the rest of the plan you will just hurt your situation, the tanks have enough range to take care of the enemy south of hamlet, on the road south of hamlet and the ridge at the same time from wharton hill alone, sending one south of the ridge will hurt your overall los at no real benefit and also just close your distance to the enemy, when you have the advantage of having long range direct firepower
