There isn't any, it was mostly oral till Mughals came and British gave paper press which let affluent gangu bamans to print their own interpretations.

Vedas are relatively pure i think. They ate just bunch of hymns meant to be recited during rites. Its smritis, itahasas etc that have the most adulteration.

Vedas was diluted by Bamans for their own benifits and to acquire more tribal gods, they wrote purans and wrote fan fiction of defeating Indra multiple times. Bamans are responsible for it

A lot of it is just entropy/3rd law of thermodynamics. It was only a matter of time thats lots of texts ended up getting adulterated due to multiple revisions and commentaries by multiple authors especially before we had digitisation.
