Dowry seems to make a lot of sense today than it did 100 or more years back simply because women today are randis and there is no gurantee for marital stability. For every man a jeeta slept with, she must pay 50 lakh inr(times a scale factor >=1, depending on her ses)
Dowry is not outlawed in Pakistan because feminism is still not mainstream.
