This was done to boost economic activity among middle class jeets. Did that happen? Not exactly. They also did a GST cut to encourage spending, especially for automobiles. Did that actually increase spending? Nope. None of these efforts to boost "growth" by the government isn't working because 60% of the population depends on free ration for survival.
