I don’t know how to properly frame this, but I do feel that ancients (and rural people today) operated on a completely different moral framework, in such a way that teleporting them here and observing the shift in moral framework would result in more shock than technological advancements. Their moral framework was one that seems “cucked” to many of us, from Eklavya voluntarily giving his thumb to Drona, being celebrated for his devotion, to Bhishma’s vow of celibacy for his fathers sake and many many other such examples. I don’t think this is necessarily a india thing, even in the Bible there are such stories of extreme subservience, I don’t fully remember it but there was one story where some guy killed his kid because god told him to and was rewarded for it.
